Kate’s Spends Valentine’s Day in Liverpool and Kate is officially inducted into Madame Tussauds

Life has just been crazy as of late!  Work, work and more work…
Never enough time to blog!!!

Moving on to the recent news…
With her husband still on deplyment in The Faulklands, The Duchess of Cambridge spent her first Valentine’s Day as a married woman on official duties in Liverpool.

Kate choose the ‘Celeste’ wool coat by Hobbs for her visits to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and The Brink Bar (an Action on Addiction project) in Liverpool.

At Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Kate was greeted by hundreds of well-wishers and presented with cards and flowers from children in the crowd.

While touring the hospital Kate visited and spoke with an array of children who are seeking treatment and then also met privately with heads of the hospital to view their new £230 million renovation plans.

Kate then visited another one of her charities The Brink – run by Action on Addictions.
Accoring to their website, “The Brink is a revolutionary new venue that’s so much more than your usual café bar. We’ve taken alcohol out of the mix to provide a truly welcoming, creative and intelligent space where people from all backgrounds and walks of life can dine, hang out, socialise and relax. Best of all, The Brink is a recovery social enterprise, which means that all our profits go directly back into the community to fund support for those who have suffered through alcoholism and addiction”.

At The Brink, The Duchess was able to taste the drink created and name in her honour.

Moving onto the fashion!
The Hobbs brown military style coat was originally £369, however it had been marked down to £182.   It has a belted waist, and flares slightly from the hips with some more small belt details around the wrists.

The Mirror is reporting this coat has already fallen victim to ‘The Kate Effect’ and sold out in an hour!

Kate accessorised her coat with a simple black polo dress from Oasis, black tights and her suede black heels.  We also noticed the same Kiki McDonough earrings from Christmas Day have made another apperance!  Her clutch was also seen a few days ago at the Lucian Freud exhibition.

Beginning in April, the Duchess of Cambridge will have not 1… but FOUR wax figures unveiled by Madame Tussauds.

The four figures will be wearing some of Kate’s most memorable ensembles, including the navy Issa dress worn during their engagement announcement

In New York City, a waxed Kate will be wearing a replica of the Alexader mcQueen gown worn in Claifornia during her North American tour last July.  Another waxed Kate in Amsterdam will be wearing the more recent Alice Temperley lace piece from the Wild Horse Premier.  And the last waxed Kate will wear the Jenny Packham dress from last years Ark Gala Dinner.

Kate chooses a Discontinued Fashion brand for First Solo Engagement

Big Surprise!!! A I’ll admit a little disappointing, because it is such a nice coat!!!

The Duchess of Cambridge choose a Jesire coat dress for the opening of the Lucian Freud exhibition at The National Portrait Gallery.

According to The Guardian “Paintings of people were central to Lucian Freud’s work and the National Portrait Gallery’s major exhibition, spanning over 70 years, is the first to focus on his portraiture. Freud painted his family, friends and lovers, referring to his models as ‘the people in his life”.

The exhitbion runs from February 9th to May 27th, with tickets selling at £15.40

And now onto the fashion… and while I can hear the fashion critics hating on this outfit already, I still am loving it!  It is simple, chic, particle and actually quiet brilliant (she didn’t have to worry about taking her coat off while in the gallery, nor about being cold while outside!) and something any lady can wear!  Pairing the coat with a fabulous little belt, gave the outfit just that little bit extra.

This was Kate’s first official solo appearance as a member of the Royal Family and she did not disappoint.  Not only was her choice in fashion spot on, but she looked confident and poised during the entire evening.

While many women in her same position often go the more glamorous route for these types of events, the Duchess showed her thrifty chic side by opting for a piece by – now defunct – fashion brand Jesire.
The double-breasted grey three-quarter sleeve coat, has a fabulous fun neckline and just enough body at the bottom to be pulled off as a dress and a coat.

For her accessories, Kate choose her Asprey pendant (seen for the first time on Canada Day in Ottawa).  The 167 Button Pendant retails of $3,750 and remains available online.

Her beautiful diamond bracelet (which has become a staple for many of her outings) and her black Jimmy Choo Cosmic Pumps (which stand at a height of 5 inches!)  The shoes are still available online for $695.

I also had to share this video (it’s a bit long, I know!).  Not only does it show the craziness that surrounds the Duchess (not sure how she can still see with all the flashes going off!) when she is out on official (and non-official engagements).  It also shows how relaxed, pleasant and down to earth she really is.  You can see her engaging in conversation with everyone, always smiling and enjoying herself.  So fabulous!

Banana Republic re-creates Kate’s Infamous Reiss Shola Dress

And it’s still available online!!!

Banana Republic has created the “Kate Sheath”, a beautiful dress reminiscent of Kate’s famous Reiss Shola dress.  The Shola dress was arguably one of Kate’s most famous dresses last year, selling out in minutes and crashing the Reiss website.

The Banana Republic version is equally stunning, and remains available online (in all sizes) for USD$130. The website describes the dress as:

  • Short sleeves. Squared neckline. Fitted bodice. Shirred waistband.
  • Invisible back zipper with hook-and-eye.
  • Skirt has back vent for ease of movement.
  • Fully lined.

The only thing missing is that wonderful detail on the front of the skirt, but either way once I figure out my proper size… there will be one in the post for me 🙂

The Duchess is Cambridge is crowned “Hat Person of the Year”

Not really sure who else could have won this title, but either way… another well deserved fashion accolade won by Kate Middleton, officially Hat Person of the Year!

The Headwear Association was found in 1908 and is the oldest fashion trade association in the industry – according to their blog. “The THA’s mission is to promote hat wearing and the headwear industry throughout the world and foster goodwill and fellowship among those engaged in the headwear industry”.

Kate Middleton received over 90% of the online votes, with runners-up included Rachel Zoe, Ne-Yo and Justin Timberlake

The Headwear Association singles out the Sylvia Fletcher of Lock & Co Maple Leaf creation worn on Canada Day in Ottawa (one of my personal favourites as well!), and the Aubergine (or purple, or mauve) Jane Corbett design worn to church on Christmas Day as two favourites.

The Headwear Association also proudly inducted several new members this year including; Lady Gaga, Victoria Beckham and Kid Rock.

This is the third annual “Hat Person of the Year” award, with Johnny Depp winning last year and Brad Pitt the year before!

Spotted Out! Kate and Will Enjoy Romantic Stroll on the Beach with their New Puppy!

After a glamorous (and public) Holiday season, followed by a very important birthday, a new photo has emerged of The Duke and Duchess enjoying a romantic stroll on the beach in their home town of Anglesey, Wales.  And… it looks like they have a new addition!

photo via bumpshack.com

The adorable little pup (looks like a black lab) is rumoured to be either a gift from Kate’s brother James for her birthday or a Christmas gift from her husband!  Either way, he/she is super cute!

Kate kept warm during her beach side stroll in a Barbour Shaped Liddesdale Jacket.  The jacket comes in an away of colours, and remains available online for £89.95.  And as with any winter beach walk the pair wore their famous Wellies.  Kate’s pair are the Ladies Chasseur boots available online for £299.00.

I still don’t really want Wellies, even the though the pair are bringing them back into style… but I sure do want a puppy 🙂

Kate Looks Chic in Temperley for War Horse London Premier

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge opted for a night out at the movies, attending Steven Speilberg’s latest flick War Horse.

If only we all got to go to the movies like this!

The London Premier in Leiscter Square wasn’t the great in terms of weather, but this didn’t stop Kate and William from looking glamorous!

In a nude and black lace dress by designer Temperley, the Duchess was sheltered from the rain by her ever attentive husband!  A simple black skinny belt gave her a fabulous slim figure, while still looking comfortable.

It seems no one has been able to find the dress online in or any past collections.  This leads many to believe the dress is a couture or one-of-a-kind designed especially for Kate.

Photo courtesy of Getty Images via The Daily Mail

This Temperley creation is very similar to the nude an black Zara Tulip Lace Dress worn by The Duchess back in December to the Gary Barlow concert.  I’m definitely feeling the new nude and black lace trend the Duchess is starting.  Very chic!

It is a case of deja-vu for the accessories!  Kate is wearing the same (albeit, still unidentified) diamond earrings.  Along with her velvet bow clutch designed by Jaime Mascaro from Pretty Ballerinas and diamond bracelet – thought to be a wedding gift from an anonymous friend.  All most recently seen together at The Millies a few weeks ago.

Photo courtesy of Splash News via The Daily Mail

While there are not many clear photos of The Duchess’ shoes… I would assume she is wearing her Jimmy Choo Cosmic Black Suede Pumps, just as she did at The Millies.

Again, loving this look!  Very simple, lady-like and not to crazy as to distract from the main purpose of the night.  I am loving the lack of necklace as to not distract from the beautiful dress and sparkling bracelet.  The Duchess is fabulous at pulling off the “less is more”  concept.

After the premier, Buckingham Palace hosted a star-studded reception, with the price of tickets rumoured to have been £10,000.  All the funds raised were donated to The Foundation for Prince William and Prince Harry

Kate’s Fashion Hits (and Misses) of 2011

Well… 2011 is done, and with that I wanted to look back on some of the amazing fashions worn by The Duchess of Cambridge over the past year.

While many people within the high fashion world have continued to put down Kate’s style, saying she is no fashion icon and makes boring choices… I think they are all full of it!  Recently, Reiss announced their profits had DOUBLED last year many thanks to The Duchess and her ability to sell out their stock in minutes and crash their website.  I would like to see Vivienne Westwood do that!

Arguably the best dress of 2011 for Kate (and maybe the world) was her custom Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen Wedding Gown.

I could talk about this one forever.  Classic, beautiful and copied the world over…this dress was part of one of the most famous moments in time.  This dress will be emulated, talked about and displayed for many years to come.

Obviously I could talk about Kate and her fashion all day, hence the blog!  However I have decided to put together my Top 10 favourites for the year!

May – Meeting President Obama and The First Lady, Reiss
The dress that stopped the internet!!! Every woman (myself includes) wanted (and still wants!) this dress.  This dress ticks all the right boxes: feminine, sophisticated, classic and because of the colour you could pair it with anything and everything.

June – Epsom Derby, Reiss
AS a girl who enjoys a day out at the races, I know how difficult it can be to get ready!  This look is simple and classic for a day at the races.  I find this look made her seems  bait older (I think because the hair is up) but still stunning.   The dress was from Reiss (and of course dolls out) and the jacket by Joseph.  There is nothing more classic then a beautiful white ensemble.  And the above I think is the perfect illustration of that.

June: ARK Gala Dinner, Jenny Peckham
The Duchess sure does love Jenny Peckham.  This dress is glamour and fabulous!  Beautifully fitted and perfect for the occasion, we don’t often see The Duchess is many evening gowns, but she never disappoints.  My favourite part of this one were the L.K. Bennett Agata Sandals she was wearing… hands down my favourites shoes, I just wish she would wear them more, many something for the spring and summer months!

June: Trooping The Colour, Alexander McQueen
For the official celebrations of Queen Elizabeth’s birthday, The Duchess looks smashing in another Alexander McQueen creation.  The coat of course sold out of record time online after she wore it, and the hat was reused a few months later at a friends wedding.  Just another simple and classy look

June: The Garter Ceremony, Katherine Hooker and Rachel Trevor-Morgan
The reactions of people within the fashion is world for this one was “why does she dress so old fashion”, “there’s no style to this, it’s boring”.  This look is not boring… it is elegant, remember… the way women used to dress before the skirts got so short and tops got so low!  This is my favourite.  Love the gray, love the hat and love the jacket.

June – North American Tour Ottawa, Erdem
Not only was it an extremely intelligent choice (wearing Erdem a Canadian designer) it is beautiful!  I often say I think she wears too match navy (and I do… she does not too much navy!) this dress was stunning.  The lace added a lady-like charm without seeming too formal and the nude accessories added a simplicity that made everyone want to emulate this look.

July – North American Tour Ottawa, Reiss
Recycling one of her most famous dresses, The Duchess looked the part for Canada Day in Ottawa.  There was mixed criticism on this outfit (mainly about the hat and shoes) but on Canada Day, and in Ottawa… this was perfect!  Kate looked elegant, but still a bit fun!  The other great aspect of the outfit was the fact that The Duchess was proving to the world that is ok to wear the same thing twice.  Women cannot afford to have new dresses and styles everyday, and Kate is making this completely social acceptable (as it should be!)

July – North American Tour Ottawa, Catherine Walker
The best part of this one was the shoes!  We’re used to seen plain / single toned shoes on The Duchess, but these shoes designed by Tabitha Simmons added some flair to the gorgeous Catherine Walker dress.

July – North American Tour California, Jenny Peckham
There’s not much to say about this floral spring dress, it is so great!  Like many women, I have bought many floral print spring dress to emulate this classic look.  Love the nude shoes, love the spring chic look.  She looks so glamorous and so comfortable at the same time.

December – Gary Barlow Concert, Zara
I love this one because it’s just a little bit shorter than we are used to seeing on The Duchess but still amazing.  Another lace piece with black stockings meant Kate looked fun without compromising on the elegance.

December – Sun Military Awards, Alexander McQueen
Last, but certainly not least (mainly because of all the diamond!) is this  beautiful Alexander McQueen black velvet dress teamed with lost of diamonds! Said to be a gift from a family friend for her wedding, Kate sparkled with the necklace, bracelet and earrings.  There is something to be said for pairing a “plain”  black dress with diamonds… absolutely stunning!

If anyone was keeping track… yes that was 11.  What can I say, I got carried away!!!

Like all woman in the world, Kate is not perfect with fashion either!  And, I’m sure that if someone took photos of me every time I went out this year… I would have made several mistakes 🙂  And while this is only one persons opinion, there were a few looks this year that didn’t really work.

July: Visiting Prince Edward Island, Alexander McQueen
While The Duchess usually wears McQueen very well… I found this one to have an older/boring look to it.  I appreciate the nautical theme while visiting the island, but I found it a bit dated and just generally not a fit with the rest of her style. For the record… I don’t like this look of Sarah Jessica Parker either!

August: Visiting Birmingham After the Riots, Alexander McQueen
I have already had my rant about this outfit… too much of the military trend together!  The shirt is great, the skirt is lovely… but together it’s too much of a good thing!

September: Wedding of Harriet Colthurst and Thomas Sutton, Colette Dinnigan
Don’t get me wrong… I love the dress!  I just don’t understand why her hat and shoes don’t match.  I think, if she wore her standard LK Bennett nude platforms, and a hat with a bit more body and punch… this look would have completely worked!

November: Buckingham Palace Reception, Mulberry
Honestly… didn’t like anything about this look!  I appreciate the change to the regular colours and styles The Duchess wears, but unfortunately for me… this Mulberry just did not work

And there you have it!

All the best for 2012!!!

Get That Look! Kiki McDonough ‘Grace’ Earrings

Throughout the year, Kate Middleton has worn numerous beautiful designs from Chelsea-based jewellery designer Kiki McDonough.

Kiki was recently quoted in The Daily Mail saying “It is wonderful to see such a stylish young person wearing my designs. As a ‘modern Royal’, Catherine is as chic when dressed down as she is at formal engagements – my jewellery is designed to be worn every day, and Catherine does this beautifully.”

My favourite, is the simple and chic diamond ‘Grace’ Earrings.

The above earrings are of course sold out, but are part of the ever popular Grace Collection – with numeours georgeous pieces still available.
The trouble comes when not every woman can offer to pay over $1,000 for a pair of earrings! No matter how amazing they are.

Swarovski have provided a beautiful solution for only $75.00 (USD), and Santa managed to bring me a pair for Christmas!

The earrings are described as “A classic pair of earrings can enhance just about any outfit. This pair of rhodium-plated button pierced earrings does just that! Each piece displays a single clear crystal chaton framed in clear crystal pavé, creating a beautiful sparkle”.

The earrings are available online, and can be pruchased with a matching necklace and ring.

Merry Christmas from The Windsor Family! (updated)

As is Christmas tradition for the Royals, they attended both a private and public Christmas Mass at  St Mary Magdalene Church close to their Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.

Photo courtesy of Reuters via The Daily Mail

This year may had been one of the toughest for The Queen and her family, with the Duke of Edinburgh missing the Christmas services (for the first time ever!)  The Duke remains in hospital following heart surgery a few days ago.  While recovering in Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, the Duke has been visited by many members of his family to help him recover during the holiday season.  It is believed that Kate was not amount the family member that went to the hospital.

The Duke and Duchess were swarmed by well wishers who had come to spend Christmas day with them!  By the looks of the photos they seemed to be having a great time.  One estimate put 3,000 people waiting outside to catch a glimpse of the young Royal Couple and Royal Family

Photo courtesy of Alan Davidson via The Daily Mail

Kate looked elegant (and warm!) in a beautiful maroon (or purple, or aubergine whichever you like) long coat with a matching hat.  A Buckingham Palace spokesman, has revealed the hat Kate wore was designed by Jane Corbett.

Photo courtesy of Getty Images via The Daily Mail

The spokesman continued to comment that “her coat was created by an independent British dressmaker, he added, but declined to reveal the designer’s identity. The Duchess is keen to use independent British dressmakers, whose skills and craftsmanship she admires”.

Photo via graziadaily.co.uk

The coat is a maroon colour, with a simple neck line, and hem below the knee.  A classic and beautiful coat with a fantastic shape… and just a little bit of flair with the colour.  With most of the other members of The Royal Family opting for a more traditional black or darker shades for the church outing, The Duchess stood out just enough!

Reports are surfacing that the earrings Kate wore are from Kiki McDounough.  The earrings are 18ct gold, citrine and diamond earrings retail for £1,900.00 and of course… they are not available!

The consensus amoung the blogging world, is that Kate wore the above style of earrings, however instead of the citrine jewel Kate wore a green amethyst.  We could not find those particular earrings online, however the above design is extremely close and still designed by Kiki McDonough… a favourite of The Duchess.  Just picture a green stone instead of the orange one!

The Daily Mail is reporting The Duchess wore black suede pumps, by designer Mascaro valued at a very reasonable £169.  Mascaro also designed the velvet bow clutch The Duchess wore at The Millies a week ago.

Photo courtesy of Ken Goff via The Daily Mail

Earlier in the day, the Royals attended a more private service at  St Mary Magdalene Church.  I wouldn’t be surprised if underneath the jacket Kate was wearing the same thing to both services.  Either way for the morning, she opted for a beautiful grey coat and her Aquatalia ‘Rumba’ boots.

Kate goes for an Understated Chic Look in Ralph Lauren for Charitable Shelter Visit

The Duke and Duchess both went for a casual look when visiting Centrepoint’s Camberwell Foyer centre in Camberwell, south east London yesterday.  In the spirit of the holidays, the young couple took the night to visit the shelter and give back to the local community, prior to heading off to Sandringham and the traditional Royal Christmas

The main goal of the charity Centrepoint is to give homeless young people a future.  As children both Prince William and Prince Harry made numerous visits to teh charity with their late mother Princess Diana.  The Duke has been a patron of Centrepoint since 2005, to read more about William’s role within the Centrepoint, click here

And now, onto the fashion!

Kate wore the Olive Mel Long-Sleeve Turtleneck Dress from Ralph Laurens Blue Label.  Originally $398, the dress is now on sale for $159… however only Large and X-Large sizes remain.  The dress does also come in Charcoal Gray (with all sizes avaiable) and in Polo Black (with all sizes available)

The boots Kate is wearing look like the Aquatalia Rumba Boots in black suede that we have seen on numerous occasions.  The boots remain available online at Nordstrom in a few sizes for $695.

While at the shelter, Kate and Will took part in cooking classes, making biscuits and mince pies with the residents, before enjoying (and participating in) a musical performance.
